Common questions during an outage
We know you have questions during a power outage, and we're here to answer them.
How do you determine estimated restoration times and why do they sometimes change?
Restoration times depend on several factors, including damage severity and crew access. During major outages, we first set a general estimate for when most customers in an area will have power restored. These times are updated as work progresses.
If you don’t see an estimate yet, we’re still assessing the situation. When crews arrive, they evaluate damage and repair needs. Additional issues may be discovered, which can change your estimated time.
Large-scale outages can be challenging, but we work around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.

Why does my power come on and then go back off?
If your power comes on and then goes back off, that can happen for a couple of reasons. During severe weather, flickering or blinking lights often indicate automated systems working to limit outages. Our operators monitor the system 24/7 and reroute power when possible to reduce the number of affected customers.
Sometimes trees will sway and make contact with power lines, causing a brief disruption to your service. Other times, crews will make temporary repairs to restore your service as quickly as possible, then briefly interrupt power later to complete permanent repairs.
