Power line safety for home projects
When you plan a home project, address overhead and underground power lines to prevent potential injuries. Contact LG&E and KU or dial 811.
Make power line safety a priority in your planning
When you plan a home project, consider the location of power lines. At your request, LG&E and KU can temporarily “drop” an overhead line or “cover” it in insulation to prevent a potential incident. Call 811 to locate underground electric and other utility lines.

How to request service to cover or drop a line
Covering power lines
Covering the lines means temporarily wrapping them in an insulated cover. Request a temporary cover at least 3 business days in advance. There’s typically no cost, and your power won’t be interrupted.
Remember, always assume that power lines are energized and keep yourself, other people, tools, and building materials such as siding, a minimum of ten feet away from them even if they are covered.
