Mill Creek Generating Station, Louisville Gas & Electric’s (LG&E) largest coal-fired power plant, resides in southwest Jefferson County, Kentucky. Built in 1968 as a response to an unprecedented increase in economic growth in the Louisville area, Mill Creek has provided reliable, affordable electricity to customers for decades. Power generation overview
Mill Creek operates three coal-fired units with a total generating capacity of 1,177 megawatts. They burn about 3.5 million tons of coal each year and feature advanced emission-control systems.
Mill Creek 5, a new, 645-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle generating unit (NGCC) is under construction and scheduled for startup in 2027.
