How Time-of-Day (TOD) billing works
Time-of-Day rates reflect how electricity demand changes throughout the day. Your business is billed based on when energy is used, not just how much is used.
Demand charges are separated into Base, Intermediate and Peak time periods, each with different costs based on overall community demand at that time.
All time periods are measured in Eastern Standard Time (EST). Daylight Savings Time is not observed.
How electric usage is measured
Meter read codes
Your bill shows how your meter was read:
Actual Read (R)
An LG&E or KU employee or contractor reads the meter in person.
Verified Read (V)
An LG&E or KU employee or contractor re-checks the meter and verifies the reading.
Estimated Read (E)
Usage is estimated based on past usage when an in-person read is not available. Any difference is corrected on a future bill.
Self-Read (S)
In rare cases, customers may submit their own meter reading. LG&E and KU will still perform periodic verification.
