Know what you’re seeing on your bill
Your business electric bill includes two main parts: how much electricity you used and the charges associated with delivering that energy safely and reliably to your location.
Below you’ll find plain-language explanations of common terms and line items so you can better understand how your bill is calculated and what each section represents.
How electric usage is measured
Meter reading types
Your bill shows how your meter was read for the billing period:
Actual Read (R)
An LG&E or KU employee or contractor reads and records your meter in person.
Verified Read (V)
An LG&E or KU employee or contractor rechecks the meter and verifies the reading using a handheld device.
Estimated Read (E)
The reading is calculated at LG&E and KU based on historical usage, previous months, or the same time last year. Any over- or under-estimates are corrected on the next actual or verified read.
Self-Read (S)
In limited cases, customers may report their own readings. LG&E and KU still perform periodic in-person readings to verify accuracy.
